What is the South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid dental portal?

The portal is provideraccess.dentaquest.com, and in South Carolina it is the whole answer. DentaQuest is the single statewide dental benefit manager for Healthy Connections — fee-for-service members and managed-care members alike — so the health plan printed on the card does not change where you verify or where you bill. The hostname resolved in a Domain Name System lookup on 10 September 2026.

The state's own portal does not handle dental

This is the thing an office cannot work out by looking, and it is the reason South Carolina eats so many hours. A biller with a dental question is told, reasonably, to use "the SC Medicaid portal". They find portal.scmedicaid.com, which is a real system that resolved when we queried it on 10 September 2026 — and it does not answer dental questions. There is no dental section to fail to find. The benefit is not administered there.

The same mistake has a second half. Because DentaQuest holds both the fee-for-service population and every managed-care plan's dental, an office that carefully identifies the patient's health plan first has done work that changes nothing. In most states that sequence is right: plan, then that plan's dental administrator, then the login. Here it is one door for everybody, and the plan lookup is a detour.

The bare scmedicaid.com has no address, and that is not an outage

Worth knowing before you report one. On 10 September 2026 we queried three forms of the state domain:

• portal.scmedicaid.com returned an address.
• scmedicaid.com, with nothing in front of it, returned no address at all. The domain exists — its nameservers answered — but the bare name has no address record.
• www.scmedicaid.com does not exist as a name.

So an office that trims the address back to the domain, or that reaches for the www form out of habit, gets a browser error. That reads as "the state portal is down", and it is not: it is a hostname that was never given an address. Type the full name including portal., and remember that even when it loads it is the wrong system for a dental question.

Where you actually log in

The check was a DNS lookup on 10 September 2026, and that is the limit of it. provideraccess.dentaquest.com resolved through a commercial content delivery network to a pair of addresses, which is ordinary for a benefit manager's login page. We did not sign in, and we make no claim about whether either site was reachable from any particular office network at any particular moment — several payer and government portals refuse traffic that does not look like an ordinary browser.

Two other DentaQuest addresses are in circulation

DentaQuest does not run one login for the country, and the near-misses cost time. providers.dentaquest.com also resolved on 10 September 2026; it is the address the directory carries for several other states. And govservices.dentaquest.com, which still circulates in older billing notes, resolved on the same day to a chain of aliases that ends without an address — another failure that presents as an outage and is a retired name.

What to do

• Go straight to provideraccess.dentaquest.com for any South Carolina Medicaid dental question. Skip the plan lookup — it does not change the answer.
• Stop routing dental through the state system. If someone in the practice has "SC Medicaid portal" filed against dental, correct the note.
• Record DentaQuest, statewide, all members against South Carolina in the practice management system, so the next person does not re-derive it from the card.
• If an address in this state fails to load, check the hostname before you escalate — the bare domain and the www form have no address, and the retired govservices name resolves to nothing.
