What is my state's Medicaid dental provider portal?

The portal a dental office logs into for Medicaid is usually not the state's portal. Most states carve the dental benefit out to a benefit manager — DentaQuest, LIBERTY Dental Plan, SKYGEN and its Scion platform, Envolve, MCNA, Avesis, a Delta Dental member company — and the office logs into that company's site, not the state's. A Virginia office has never used a Virginia state portal for dental. A South Carolina biller sent to "the SC Medicaid portal" for a dental question has been sent to a system that does not handle dental at all. The directory below names the programme, who actually runs the dental benefit, and the hostname the office signs in at, for 48 states and the District of Columbia. Every hostname was re-checked in the Domain Name System on 10 September 2026. Two states — Alaska and Georgia — were not checked and are not in the table, because a directory whose whole value is that somebody checked it has no business filling in the rows nobody checked.

The directory

Forty-eight states and the District of Columbia, checked portal by portal in September 2026. "Not established" means the research did not settle who runs that plan's dental, and it is written that way on purpose: it is the honest answer, and it is more useful than a name that turns out to be last year's contract. Hostnames are printed rather than linked, so you can see what you are about to type — and where two or three are listed, the one you need depends on the patient's plan, not on the state.

Two failure modes are worth naming before you use any table like this one. The first is looking for a state portal where the state does not run the benefit: Nevada, South Carolina and Virginia offices deal with a benefit manager and nothing else, and the state site will not answer a dental question. The second is the reverse — North Carolina, Washington and Vermont have no benefit manager at all, so the patient's managed-care card is a distraction and the state system is the whole answer.

The agencies' own pages point at addresses that no longer work

This is the part that makes a checked directory worth publishing rather than a nicety. The clearest case is the District of Columbia. The DC Department of Health Care Finance homepage at dhcf.dc.gov still links providers to dc-medicaid.com/dcwebportal/home. That domain was re-registered on 14 August 2026, and on 10 September 2026 the link redirected to an unrelated site serving an Indonesian online-gambling page. The District's live portal is medicaid.dc.gov, which answered normally the same day. We are not linking the old one.

Five more hostnames still in circulation returned no address at all when we queried them on 10 September 2026, and a sixth resolves to a chain that ends nowhere:

Pennsylvania's own provider material still tells offices to register at the first of those PROMISe addresses. Florida's mymedicaid-florida.com is broken a different way: it resolves, but it did not complete an HTTPS connection for us on 10 September 2026 and returned a certificate whose name did not match the domain the day before — so a biller typing the obvious thing gets a browser security warning rather than a login box.

Somebody has registered the obvious lookalike names

Seven domains built on one pattern — a real portal's name with providerportal.com glued on the end — were registered between February and June 2026 and each serves a page whose title is the real portal's name. Checked on 9 September 2026 by DNS lookup, an HTTP fetch and a WHOIS query:

All seven were registered through the same registrar under privacy protection, all sit behind Cloudflare, six share the same pair of Cloudflare nameservers, and two of them were created two and a half minutes apart. Every registration is a one-year term. What that establishes is narrow and enough: none of these is the portal, and one of them, forwardhealthproviderportal.com, appears in ordinary search results for Wisconsin. We read the page titles and nothing further, so we make no claim about what the sites do. Seven is what guessing the pattern found — a floor, not a count.

Four dates that change where you log in

• Michigan, 1 October 2026. All Healthy Kids Dental consolidates to Delta Dental of Michigan. Offices billing the children's programme through another plan are re-papered onto one payer.
• Maine, 10 October 2026. The MaineCare portal is replaced by the MaineCare Partner Portal. Every bookmark in the state breaks.
• Texas, phased through 2026. TMHP is migrating to IAMOnline: single sign-on, mandatory multi-factor authentication, and a seven-day activation window after which access is lost.
• New Mexico, 23 March 2026. Turquoise Claims replaced both the claims engine and the provider portal in one cutover, and the old host is gone from DNS rather than redirected — so a stale bookmark fails with a browser error instead of a redirect.

Recent turnovers already settled, worth knowing so you do not chase a dead contract: Tennessee moved from DentaQuest to Renaissance Dental on 1 November 2025; Massachusetts moved back to DentaQuest on 1 February 2026; Ohio's CareSource moved from DentaQuest to Delta Dental on 1 January 2026; Iowa replaced MCNA with Delta Dental of Iowa and DentaQuest on 1 July 2026; Arkansas ended dental managed care on 1 November 2024; and Nebraska dissolved its statewide benefit manager on 1 January 2024.

What to do

• Find the benefit manager before you find the portal. In most states the sequence is patient's plan, then that plan's dental administrator, then the login. Starting at the state site wastes the call in Nevada, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, where a single manager holds everything.
• Check the link against the operating agency's own page, and check it every time a contract changes. The DC case is an agency link pointing at a domain the agency no longer owns, so "we got it from the state site" is not proof by itself. If the address in your bookmark bar is a .com and the state's system is a .gov, look twice.
• Type the hostname; do not click through a search result. Seven lookalike names exist on one pattern alone and at least one of them turns up in ordinary results. A domain that ends providerportal.com is not a state portal.
• Record the portal against the plan in your practice management system, not against the state. Michigan and Ohio route by plan, and a note filed under "Medicaid" sends the next person to the wrong login.
• Diary the four dates above. For Texas specifically, the seven-day activation window is the trap: a migration email that sits unopened for a week costs the whole office its access.
• Where the table says "not established", call the plan and write down what they tell you. That is a real gap in the public record, not a formatting artefact.
