The state system is ohpnm.omes.maximus.com, and on its own it will not tell you where to send a dental claim. Ohio Medicaid "Next Generation" runs seven managed care plans and each plan subcontracts its own dental administrator, so the portal you need follows the card in the patient's hand, not the state.
Two things changed, and offices are still working off the old ones
CareSource is no longer DentaQuest. That contract moved to Delta Dental on 1 January 2026. An office that learned Ohio once and filed "CareSource means DentaQuest" is now sending verifications and claims to the wrong administrator for one of the state's plans, and the mistake is invisible until something bounces back.
MITS is gone from DNS, not redirected. The Medicaid Information Technology System was Ohio's provider portal for years, and it was retired in favour of the address above. When mits.ohio.gov was queried on 10 September 2026 it returned no address record at all. That distinction matters more than it sounds: a retired hostname that still resolves gives you a redirect or a polite notice, while one with no DNS record gives the browser a plain "site can't be reached" error. Offices read that as the portal being down and wait for it to come back. It is not down. It no longer exists, and waiting is the wrong response.
Three of the seven plans are not established
DentaQuest is confirmed for AmeriHealth, Humana and UnitedHealthcare. CareSource is Delta Dental as of 1 January 2026. For the remaining three plans, who administers dental is not established — meaning the public record does not settle it, not that the answer is obvious. Ring the plan on the patient's card and write down what they tell you. That is a genuine gap, and a guess based on what the plan next door does is exactly how the CareSource error above propagates.

Each hostname was put through a Domain Name System lookup on 10 September 2026. The first two returned addresses; mits.ohio.gov returned nothing. That is the limit of what was verified — nobody signed in, and no claim is made about reachability from any particular network.
The last row is worth a sentence. ohiomedicaidproviderportal.com is one of a family of domains built on one pattern, a real portal's name with providerportal.com glued on the end, registered in 2026 behind Cloudflare. Its page title borrows Ohio Medicaid's name. Nothing further was read, so nothing further is claimed — except the narrow, sufficient point that it is not the portal.
What to do
- Start from the plan, not the state. Ohio routes dental per managed care plan; the state system does not answer the dental question by itself.
- Re-check any CareSource patient. The administrator changed on 1 January 2026 and old notes are wrong.
- If MITS gives you a browser error, stop waiting. The hostname has no DNS record. Replace the bookmark.
- For the three unestablished plans, call and record the answer against the plan in the practice management system, not against "Ohio Medicaid".
- Type the address rather than clicking a search result, since at least one lookalike domain carrying Ohio Medicaid's name is live.
