The portal is nctracks.nc.gov, and for dental it is the only one. North Carolina is unusual: dental is carved out of managed care entirely, so unlike most states there is no benefit manager sitting between the practice and the programme — no DentaQuest, no LIBERTY, no SKYGEN. That single fact removes the question most offices waste time on.
The card in the patient's hand does not decide where you verify
Most North Carolina Medicaid members are enrolled in a managed care health plan, and they carry that plan's card. In almost every other state, the card tells you which portal to use. Here it does not. Because dental sits outside managed care, the plan on the card has no bearing on the dental benefit — you verify eligibility and submit the claim through NCTracks whichever plan is printed on it.
This is the most common way an office loses a day in North Carolina: the front desk reads the card, goes looking for that plan's dental provider portal, finds a general medical portal that does not handle dental, and concludes the patient has no coverage. The coverage is there. It is just not behind that door.

The check was a Domain Name System lookup on 10 September 2026: the hostname resolves. That is what we verified and the limit of it. We did not attempt to sign in, and we make no claim about whether the portal was reachable from any particular network at any particular moment — several state portals refuse traffic that does not look like an ordinary browser, so a failed fetch from a data centre says nothing about the portal.
A lookalike domain is live, and it is not the portal
A domain named nctracksproviderportal.com was registered on 23 June 2026 and was still resolving when we re-checked it on 10 September 2026. It sits behind Cloudflare on the same pair of nameservers as six other domains built to the same pattern — a real portal's name with providerportal.com glued on the end — several of which were registered within minutes of one another through the same registrar under privacy protection.
We read the page titles and nothing further, so we make no claim about what those sites do. What we can say is narrow and sufficient: none of them is NCTracks, and the address that is NCTracks is the .nc.gov one above. If you reached a North Carolina Medicaid login through a search result rather than a bookmark, check the domain before you type anything into it.
What to do
- Bookmark nctracks.nc.gov directly and reach it from the bookmark, not from a search.
- Ignore the managed care plan on the card for dental purposes — verify and bill NCTracks regardless.
- If a patient appears to have no dental coverage, confirm you checked NCTracks and not the health plan's own portal, which does not carry the dental benefit.
- Record in the practice management system that North Carolina dental is fee-for-service through NCTracks, so the next person to open the chart does not repeat the search.
