New Jersey runs five NJ FamilyCare plans across three dental systems, and one of those three is on its way out. That combination — a routing table with five entries and a moving part inside it — is what makes this state expensive to get wrong, and it is not something an office can work out from the state portal.
Five plans, three doors, and one of the doors is being retired
The split runs like this:
- LIBERTY Dental Plan carries three of the five — Aetna, Wellpoint and Fidelis.
- SKYGEN, on its Scion platform, carries Horizon.
- UnitedHealthcare Dental carries its own.
Three of the five going to a single administrator is the part that catches people out in the other direction: an office that learns "New Jersey is LIBERTY" is right three times out of five and confidently wrong the rest of the time.
The moving part is the Scion portal. It is being retired. No cutover date is attached to that, so treat the address below as live until the plan tells you otherwise — and if you bill Horizon, ask that plan's dental line what the successor address will be rather than waiting to find out from a browser error. A retired host that is removed rather than redirected fails exactly like an outage, which is how offices lose a morning to a system that is working perfectly.
Where you actually log in
| What | Address | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| Aetna Wellpoint Fidelis — LIBERTY Dental Plan | providerportal.libertydentalplan.com | 10 September 2026 |
| Horizon — SKYGEN on the Scion platform (retiring) | pwp.sciondental.com | 10 September 2026 |
| UnitedHealthcare Dental | no New Jersey address in the directory — ring the plan | 10 September 2026 |
| State system — NJ FamilyCare | njmmis.com | 10 September 2026 |
Each printed hostname went through a Domain Name System lookup on 10 September 2026 and each returned an address. That is the whole of what we checked: we did not sign in, and we make no claim about whether any of them was reachable from a given network at a given moment. The UnitedHealthcare Dental row is blank on purpose — the directory carries no New Jersey address for that route, and an address borrowed from another state's row is not evidence about this one.
The retiring Scion address still resolves, and it resolves onto SKYGEN's own address. On 10 September 2026 pwp.sciondental.com resolved through app.sciondental.com to SKYGEN's traffic-manager name and ended at 12.180.173.85 — the same address SKYGEN's own pwp.skygenusasystems.com ended at the same day. Useful narrowly: a retirement that has already been announced has not yet been carried out in DNS, so the old bookmark is not dead today. It says nothing about which login the plan will want next year.
What to do
- Identify the FamilyCare plan first, then the dental administrator, then the portal. Starting at njmmis.com does not answer a dental question for a managed care member.
- Label bookmarks by plan — "Aetna/Wellpoint/Fidelis → LIBERTY", "Horizon → Scion" — because a bookmark labelled "NJ Medicaid" is right at most three times in five.
- If you bill Horizon, get the successor address from the plan now, in writing, and diary it. That is the one live change in this state.
- Treat a sudden browser error on the Scion address as a possible cutover, not an outage. Check the plan's provider notices before ringing anybody.
- Record the administrator against the plan in the practice management system, not against "New Jersey".
The state-by-state directory covers 48 states and the District of Columbia the same way, each hostname re-checked in DNS on the same date.
Portal addresses and plan routing last re-checked 10 September 2026.
