The state portal for Minnesota Health Care Programs is mn-its.dhs.state.mn.us, and the hyphen in the middle is load-bearing. It resolved when we looked it up in the Domain Name System on 10 September 2026. Minnesota has no statewide dental administrator: DentaQuest runs the dental benefit for UCare, Delta Dental of Minnesota runs it for South Country, and for four other plans the public record does not settle who runs it.
The typo that reads like an outage
The programme is spoken as "MN–ITS", which is why people type mnits.dhs.state.mn.us. We looked that spelling up on 10 September 2026 and it has no DNS record at all.
That failure mode is worth naming because of how it looks from the front desk. A hostname with no DNS record does not redirect you to the right place and does not show you a login page that rejects you — the browser fails before it reaches any Minnesota system, with an error that reads like the portal is down. It is not down; you are typing an address that does not exist. Check the hyphen before you tell anyone the state system is broken.
"Not established" is the honest answer for four plans
Two of Minnesota's plan routes are settled: DentaQuest for UCare, Delta Dental of Minnesota for South Country. For four plans, who administers dental is not established in the public record — and that is written as a gap on purpose rather than filled with the likeliest-looking name.
The practical consequence is that in Minnesota you cannot pattern-match. In a state with a single statewide manager, one wrong guess costs one call. Here, a guess that a plan "must be DentaQuest because two others are" sends the verification to a company with no relationship to that member, which comes back as no coverage found rather than as a routing error. Ring the plan named on the card, ask who administers its dental benefit and what address you verify at, and write both down. That is a real gap in what is published, not something you have failed to find.

Both resolving hostnames were put through a DNS lookup on 10 September 2026 and returned an address. That is what we verified and the limit of it. We did not attempt to sign in, and we make no claim about whether either site was reachable from any particular network — state and payer portals commonly refuse connections that do not come from an ordinary office, so a failure elsewhere proves nothing about the portal.
What to do
- Bookmark the hyphenated address and reach the state system from the bookmark. If the browser says the site cannot be found, suspect the spelling before you suspect an outage.
- Start at the patient's plan, not at the state. Minnesota has no single dental manager, so the plan is the first question every time.
- Where the administrator is unknown, ask the plan and record the answer against the plan in your practice management system. A note filed under "Minnesota Medicaid" will be wrong for most of your patients.
- Do not assume DentaQuest by default. It holds UCare here; it is not the statewide answer, and a verification sent to the wrong administrator comes back looking like the patient has no benefit.
