The login is provider.mdhealthysmiles.com, which leads to pwp.sciondental.com. Maryland Healthy Smiles is a single statewide carve-out — one benefit manager, SKYGEN, running on its Scion platform — so the patient's managed care plan does not change where you verify or bill. That part is easy. Two other things about Maryland are not.
The domain everybody types does not exist
On 10 September 2026 we queried three related hostnames in the Domain Name System. provider.mdhealthysmiles.com returned an address. The bare mdhealthysmiles.com returned no address at all, and www.mdhealthysmiles.com returned no address either.
That matters because the bare domain is what a person types. Somebody hears "Maryland Healthy Smiles", drops the words together with a .com on the end, and gets a browser error — connection failed, site cannot be reached. That screen reads as an outage. It is not one: the programme's provider portal is at the provider. hostname and only there. Anyone in the office who has concluded that "the Healthy Smiles site is down" has probably typed the two-word version.
The provider. prefix is load-bearing. Bookmark it with the prefix and reach it from the bookmark.
The state-branded name is a front door onto SKYGEN's platform
The second thing offices find confusing is that the address they log in at and the system they end up in have different names. provider.mdhealthysmiles.com is Maryland-branded; the portal behind it is Scion, SKYGEN's provider platform, at pwp.sciondental.com.
DNS is consistent with that. On 10 September 2026 provider.mdhealthysmiles.com returned 74.203.203.198, and sciondental.com returned that same address among its own; pwp.sciondental.com resolved through a chain that runs via a skygenusasystems.com hostname before ending on an address. We did not sign in and make no claim about what is behind the login — but if you arrive at a page branded Scion rather than Healthy Smiles, you have not been misdirected. That is the same system.
A successor is contracted with no date
DentaQuest is contracted as Maryland's successor benefit manager, and no start date has been announced. That is the honest state of the public record and it is worth writing down as it stands, because a transition with no date is the kind that arrives as a letter your practice reads late.
Until a date exists, nothing about your workflow changes: verify and bill through the addresses above. Do not pre-emptively enrol with DentaQuest for Maryland on the strength of a rumour, and do not treat instructions naming DentaQuest for Maryland as current — they are describing a contract that has not started.

The checks were Domain Name System lookups on 10 September 2026. That is what we verified and the limit of it — we did not attempt to sign in, and we make no claim about whether either portal was reachable from any particular network, since several payer portals refuse traffic that does not look like an ordinary browser.
What to do
- Bookmark provider.mdhealthysmiles.com with the
provider.prefix. The bare domain resolves to nothing. - If a colleague reports the Healthy Smiles site is down, check what they typed before you check anything else.
- Ignore the patient's managed care plan for dental. One manager holds the whole state.
- Expect the Scion branding after login and do not read it as the wrong portal.
- Watch for a DentaQuest start date from the state, and until one is published, keep working the current addresses.
