Who runs TennCare dental now — DentaQuest or Renaissance Dental?

Renaissance Dental, not DentaQuest. Renaissance Dental has administered dental for TennCare and CoverKids since 1 November 2025, and the office logs in at rendentalofficetoolkit.com. The state's own sign-in sits at mylogin.tenncare.gov. Both hostnames resolved in a Domain Name System lookup on 10 September 2026.

Twelve years of habit points at the wrong company

This is the fact that makes Tennessee expensive right now. DentaQuest held the Tennessee children's dental contract for twelve years. Twelve years is long enough that the DentaQuest address is not in a bookmark — it is in the onboarding checklist, in the laminated card by the front desk, in the muscle memory of whoever has verified Tennessee eligibility since 2013, and in every billing forum answer written before late 2025.

None of that updates itself when a contract changes hands. What an office sees instead is a login it has used for years that no longer recognises the patient, and the natural reading of that is a coverage problem — the child has lost eligibility, or the plan has lapsed. It is neither. The patient is fine; the administrator changed.

If you have staff who verify Tennessee occasionally rather than daily, assume they are still on the old route until you have watched them do it.

Where you actually log in

The check was a DNS lookup on 10 September 2026 and nothing beyond it. rendentalofficetoolkit.com returned a pair of addresses behind a commercial web-security service; mylogin.tenncare.gov returned addresses through Amazon's global accelerator. We did not sign in to either, and we make no claim about whether either was reachable from a particular office network at a particular moment — several state and payer portals refuse traffic that does not look like an ordinary browser.

Two traps in the addresses themselves

The bare tenncare.gov has no address. We queried it on 10 September 2026 and it returned none, and neither did www.tenncare.gov. The domain exists — its nameservers answered — but those two forms have no address record, so an office that trims the hostname back or types the www form out of habit gets a browser error. That reads as an outage and is not one. The name that resolved is the full mylogin.tenncare.gov.

The dental address is three letters away from a different site. Tennessee's is rendentalofficetoolkit.com, with ren on the front for Renaissance. A separate name, dentalofficetoolkit.com, also resolved on 10 September 2026, and it is the address the state directory carries against Michigan. We did not open either site, so we say nothing about what each one serves — only that two similar names both resolve and DNS cannot tell you which one you meant. Type the Tennessee name in full and check the first three letters.

What to do

• Replace the DentaQuest address wherever it is written down for Tennessee — checklists, the card by the desk, the practice management system note. A stale bookmark is the smaller half of this problem.
• Bookmark rendentalofficetoolkit.com and reach it from the bookmark rather than from a search, since results written before late 2025 still name the previous administrator.
• Record Renaissance Dental since 1 November 2025 against TennCare and CoverKids, with the date, so the next person can tell a contract change from a coverage problem.
• If a Tennessee child suddenly "has no coverage" on a portal you have used for years, check which portal you are on before you tell the family anything.
• Do not shorten mylogin.tenncare.gov. The bare domain and the www form have no address.

The state-by-state directory has the same answer for 48 states and the District of Columbia, each hostname re-checked in DNS on the same date.
